Lijiang is famed for it’s old town, with cobbled streets, canals, cafes, bars and lots of shops.
We were visiting during a national Chinese holiday week and as a result the old town was incredibly busy with Chinese tourists and groups. Luckily we had booked a hotel on a quite street right on the edge of old town and up a little bit of a hill; as a result this area of old town was nice and quiet making it a great escape from the crowds.
The old town is very touristy, many shops selling the same things just repeated along every street, lots of places to eat and some of the most expensive coffee houses we have seen travelling all over the world at almost £5 a cup!
It is a great place to walk around and take photos but you will find yourself wanting to escape the crowds pretty quickly.
