An unexpected highlight of our short visit to Galveston was The Ocean Star Offshore Drilling Rig and Museum. We just stumbled on this place as we were walking around and were glad we did as it is a really interesting place to visit.
The museum is built on an old oil rig that was used in the gulf of mexico and surrounding it in the bay were other rigs that had been bought into shore for maintenance…. this was amazing to see.
We also had no idea just how much drilling activity takes place in the gulf of mexico, there is something like 3000+ active platforms.
