Volubilis is a partly excavated Roman city in Morocco situated near Meknes between Fes and Rabat.
Here we met up with a local guide for a walking tour around the site. Our guide was excellent and did a great job of helping us imagine what the place was like back in the 2nd and 3rd centuries.
The city’s wealth came from Agriculture, especially olive growing and as a result the Volubilis had a large number of large town houses and public buildings with excellent examples of Mosaic flooring.
Today the site is a UNESCO world heritage site and work is under way to restore where possible.
