Waiheke Island

Waiheke is an island in the Hauraki gulf, just of the coast of Auckland. Its has become known as ‘island of wine’. The climates and soils produces award-winning wines.

We visited three vineyards & an olive grove.

Stonyridge Vineyard- founded on the island in 1981, specialising in Bordeaux style reds, it’s most famous wine is the Stoneyridge Larose.

Mudbrick Vineyard – One of Waiheke’s best know wineries and has a beautiful Provence style garden with aromatic fragrances from the herbs. This vineyard produces Cabernet Savignon, Shiraz, Merlot and Chardonnay.

Wild on Waiheke – Has a Micro brewery & a vineyard. It produces beers from pale ale, wheat beer, malt beer, dark ale and ginger beer. Wines produces are: Topknot Hill Savignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Rose, Cabernet/Merlot.

Rangihoua Estate – has over 1000 olive trees and produces award-winning extra virgin olive oils.
